Pedro Acosta finally shattered the barrier that had long held him back. In front of KTM's home crowd, the young Spaniard secured his maiden MotoGP victory, capitalizing on a dramatic Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. It was a moment long awaited, especially as this marks his final year with the Austrian manufacturer.
The race began with Jorge Martin on pole, aiming for a double after winning the Sprint. Marc Marquez started second, matching his sprint finish, while Acosta lined up third despite crashing out of the lead in the shorter race. Marco Bezzecchi completed the front row, having taken the final sprint podium spot on Saturday.
As the lights went out, Martin launched perfectly. His teammate, Bezzecchi, immediately attacked for second, with Ai Ogura slotting into third. Marc Marquez dropped to fourth, ahead of Acosta. The KTM rider tried to pass but Marquez closed the gap. On his second attempt, through the left-handers, Acosta made the move stick and took the position.
Bezzecchi then overtook Martin for the lead, but Martin responded quickly to reclaim first. Acosta kept charging, passing Ogura for a podium spot and then swiftly dispatching Bezzecchi to sit behind Martin. Gradually, he closed in. At Turn 1, he was right on Martin's tail, and on acceleration out of the corner, he seized the lead. Behind him, Marc Marquez executed a similar move to take fourth from Ogura.
Unfortunately, Marc Marquez then made a mistake, running wide at Turn 1. He rejoined in sixth, behind Brad Binder. Aldeguer capitalized to pass Marquez, while Bagnaia languished in eighth. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez suffered his third crash of the weekend while battling Raul Fernandez for twelfth. Only on lap twenty did Marquez pass Aldeguer to enter the top five.
Up front, Acosta continued to lead and gradually pulled away from Martin. Bezzecchi tried to close in on his teammate but couldn't find a way past. Behind them, Fabio Quartararo had to serve a long lap penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him to ninth. Until the chequered flag, Acosta was unstoppable and wrote a new chapter in history.
