Matthew Payne delivered a stunning lap at Ipswich to secure his sixth pole position of the season. The Grove Racing driver edged out Brodie Kostecki from Dick Johnson Racing by a mere 0.0255 seconds. Meanwhile, Chaz Mostert was third for Walkinshaw TWG, making him the only Toyota driver in the top three.
Ford’s dominance was on full display in this qualifying session. Eight of the top ten positions were occupied by Ford Mustangs, with Will Brown leading the Triple Eight charge after outpacing his teammate Broc Feeney, who finished fourth and fifth respectively. Brown’s performance answered some of the questions that have been circling around him recently.
Kai Allen, Payne’s teammate at Grove Racing, was solid in sixth. He was followed by Thomas Randle (Tickford Racing) in seventh, Rylan Gray (Dick Johnson Racing) in eighth, Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing) in ninth, and Cooper Murray (Erebus Motorsport) as the lone Chevrolet driver in the top ten.

Several big names missed out on the top ten. Anton De Pasquale from Team 18 had to settle for 12th, while Ryan Wood from Walkinshaw TWG could only manage 13th. This is a blow for both drivers, who are usually competitive.
With these results, the front of the grid is set for a fierce battle. Ford has shown its collective strength, while Toyota and Chevrolet will need to work extra hard to catch up. Can Payne convert this pole into a win? We'll see in the main race.
