Ollie Bearman did not hold back when discussing his extreme frustration with the strategy that Haas put him on, which he believes completely ruined his chances of fighting for strong points during a chaotic race weekend. The British driver felt hard done by after being forced onto an incorrect tyre choice without his prior knowledge, despite having the raw pace to battle inside the points-paying positions.
The root of the controversy stems from Ollie Bearman being adamant about starting the race on intermediate tyres, which clearly suited the changing track conditions at the time. However, Haas decided behind closed doors to run a split strategy, putting teammate Esteban Ocon on intermediates from further down the grid while gambling with slick tyres on the leading car.
As the lead car in that initial scenario, Ollie Bearman felt it was fundamentally unfair to shoulder the riskier strategy. In his view, the standard protocol should dictate that the lead car receives a normal, stable strategy, while any aggressive gambles should naturally be reserved for the second car, much like the path given to Esteban Ocon.

The gamble backfired spectacularly as Ollie Bearman lost massive amounts of race time, dropping nearly 40 seconds behind the midfield pack after the first safety car period. Although his pace on the hard compound tyres was remarkably strong—allowing him to comfortably overtake an Alpine and pull away—the damage was already done, leaving him to finish the weekend down in 14th place just ahead of his teammate.
Reflecting on the blunder, Ollie Bearman explained to Crash.net, "My throttle pedal worked, which was a good start, but I ended up on slicks, and that was the wrong choice." He stressed that the call was entirely out of his hands and executed at the very last minute without his consent.
"It wasn't my choice. I was adamant that we start on inters, and there was a zero percent chance that we would put the slick, but the team decided to put me on the slick at the last minute, which I didn't know about," Ollie Bearman concluded, lamenting a missed opportunity in a race where cooler weather conditions should have ideally played right into Haas' hands.
