Sebastien Ogier has confirmed one thing about his future: he will not start Rally Monte Carlo. The announcement surprised many, as Monte Carlo is the iconic season opener. However, for Ogier, this decision is final, while the rest of the season remains uncertain.

For the reigning world champion, this season has lost personal stakes after he retired from Rally Paraguay, burying his championship medal hopes. Despite finishing second in Chile, his focus now is on enjoying the final rally with the current Rally1 cars. "It feels a bit bittersweet," he admits.

Ogier reflects on the evolution of Rally1 cars. "At first they were less exciting, but they progressed, and now everyone is super excited about these cars. I'm not sure I would rate them as the best ever, but they are certainly among the best. We have had some great times and good fun driving these cars. But all good things come to an end."

He expects the upcoming rally to be difficult, with dust as the biggest problem. Even long starting intervals might not suffice if the weather is calm. "The rally schedule allows it. I understand they don't want to extend intervals too much because of the evening. But the schedule now allows it, so we hope common sense prevails."

Ogier also highlighted the importance of fair conditions for the three drivers fighting for the title. "We hope so because we want to enjoy this final rally. But I think the three drivers fighting for the title also want the best and fairest possible conditions for their battle," he stressed.

Not to forget, Ogier took a swipe at tyre manufacturer Hankook. Although more tyre changes are allowed in Rally Sardinia, he believes it's unnecessary. "It is a good illustration of the situation we are in. It shows we have absolutely no confidence in the tyres we are using and there is huge room for improvement. At least the FIA and promoter are trying to ensure tyres do not affect the outcome or turn the competition into a lottery."

Speculation about Ogier's future has been rife. The multiple world champion has not officially announced his plans for next season, but he made one thing clear. "As I've said, I have nothing to hide right now. The decision has not been made. The only thing I can say for certain is that I won't start Monte Carlo. That's the only certainty right now."

With his Monte Carlo absence confirmed, Ogier's WRC future remains a mystery. Is this the end of his career, or just a pause? Only time will tell. One thing is for sure: he wants to end this season with fond memories of the Rally1 car.
