Esteban Ocon and Haas have officially confirmed that they will end their partnership at the end of the Formula 1 2026 season. The announcement concludes weeks of speculation surrounding the Frenchman's future.
Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last week, Ocon labelled himself a 'free agent', prompting many to believe an official announcement was imminent. Now, that certainty has arrived, marking the end of a distinct chapter in Ocon's career with the American team.
Ocon joined Haas in 2025 after leaving Alpine. Over the past two seasons, the 30-year-old has shown impressive performances. However, in recent months, he has faced intense scrutiny for struggling to match the pace of his teammate, Ollie Bearman.
Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu expressed his appreciation for Ocon's contributions. In an official statement cited by Motorsport Week, Komatsu thanked the Grand Prix winner for his achievements and professionalism.
"I'd like to thank Esteban for everything he's contributed to the team since joining us in 2025," Komatsu said.
"His professionalism and commitment have proved valuable as we continue to grow as an organisation. Together this year we tackled the challenge of a major regulation change. Esteban's driving experience and input were significant as we've worked hard to develop the VF-26 across the season."
"There's still plenty of racing ahead. And our focus remains on working together to maximize every opportunity through to the final race of the year."
It is unclear at this stage whether Ocon will remain on the F1 grid for the 2027 season. With an outstanding resume and several seats yet to be confirmed, the Frenchman may not be saying farewell just yet.
The decision also raises questions about Haas's direction for next season. The team based in Kannapolis is working to build a long-term foundation under Komatsu's leadership. Ocon's departure could open opportunities for a young driver or another experienced figure to partner Bearman, who impressed in his rookie season.
With new technical regulations coming into effect in 2027, stability and development will be key. Haas needs to ensure a driver lineup capable of adapting quickly to major changes. Meanwhile, Ocon will evaluate his best options, including a possible move to another team or even exploring other racing categories.
For Ocon, the 2026 season still has races that can be used to prove his quality. Performance in the remaining races will be valuable leverage in contract negotiations, whether with Haas or another team. All eyes are now on the next step for the driver who has previously raced for Force India, Renault, and Alpine.
