Norris Predicts Monza-Style Chaos at F1 Sepang Return

Lando Norris is eagerly awaiting Formula 1's return to the Sepang International Circuit this weekend. The McLaren driver predicts a chaotic race, similar to the high-speed drama at Monza.

After a nine-year hiatus, F1 finally returns to Malaysia. Sepang now hosts the Bahrain Grand Prix, a naming oddity given its location. But for Norris, what matters is the challenging track character.

"Honestly, I think next weekend will be pretty chaotic in terms of racing because of the straights and corner setup," Norris said. "So you'll see a similar vibe to Monza in some ways."

Much has changed since F1 last visited Sepang in 2017. More than half of the current grid has never raced there. Norris joined two years later, but he has unique memories.

"I remember doing sim support for Fernando and Stoffel when they raced there," he recalled. "I remember going into the factory at midnight and driving until 7 AM. So it's not completely new to me, but it'll be my first time going to the circuit itself."

Despite his eagerness, Norris highlighted a technical downside that could dull Sepang's beauty. With new energy regulations, battery management is crucial. "The only thing that's not exciting is because you have no battery. The two high-speed corners that should be high-speed, you run out of battery," he explained. "That takes away a little bit of the character that I think you should have at such an incredible track."

F1's return to Sepang also tests teams and drivers in adapting to a circuit that demands a balance between speed and energy efficiency. McLaren is enjoying a strong season, and Norris hopes to capitalise on that momentum.

With the race just days away, fans in Malaysia and around the world are eager to see if Norris's prediction of Monza-style chaos comes true. One thing is certain: Sepang always delivers unforgettable action.
