The MotoGP race weekend at Phillip Island, Australia, left an emotional mark on Pedro Acosta after severe weather forced the cancellation of the main Grand Prix due to heavy rain. The star rider for the KTM factory squad had previously hoped for downpours to help boost his RC16 machine's performance in the battle for top positions.
The desire for wet track conditions was understandable, given that the young Spaniard had secured a solid fifth-place finish in the Sprint race a day prior. However, finishing 3,5 seconds behind the leaders highlighted that the Austrian manufacturer still needed significant development to match the raw pace of their main rivals at the iconic coastal venue.
The race cancellation froze the championship standings for another week, halting a crucial opportunity for the Red Bull athlete. Having just claimed fourth place in the standings, Acosta missed out on a prime chance to consolidate his position on a wet track where he genuinely believed a podium finish was well within reach.

The championship battle behind the top three remains intensely tight, with only eleven points separating Acosta in fourth and his closest pursuers, including Fabio Di Giannantonio. Despite missing out on valuable race laps, the 22-year-old expressed deep gratitude for the passionate fans and cherished memories of past podiums at the historic circuit.
Team manager Aki Ajo echoed the disappointment regarding the canceled race, emphasizing the fantastic atmosphere brought by the spectators. While the weather ultimately ruined Sunday's racing action, the team drew positive conclusions from their solid performance during the dry practice and sprint sessions.
