Late drama at the final corner of the Motegi Sprint race completely reshaped the podium and delivered a career milestone for Diogo Moreira. Benefiting from post-race penalties handed to his rivals, the Brazilian rookie clinched a brilliant second place to secure his very first premier-class rostrum with Honda.
The chaotic twist unfolded when Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini—who originally crossed the line in second and third—touched the green paint beyond the track limits. The resulting one-position penalties for both riders instantly promoted the young standout into the runner-up spot.
Moreira admitted he kept a close eye on the battling contenders as they approached the chequered flag. While acknowledging that the unexpected penalty played a major role in his result, he emphasized the strong race pace and positive feeling he shared with his machine throughout the short encounter.

The Sprint was far from straightforward, as the Brazilian had to manage significant tyre degradation in the central part of the compound, a hurdle shared by several competitors on the demanding Japanese layout.
This breakthrough result serves as a much-needed morale boost for the Japanese manufacturer on home soil. A solid base setup and proven historic speed at Motegi have clearly helped unlock a more competitive package this weekend.
