A costly mistake on the opening lap turned into a major headache for Alex Marquez during the frantic MotoGP Sprint race at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit. Starting from fifth on the grid, the Catalan rider misjudged his braking zone at Turn 3, triggering a dramatic multi-rider crash that wiped out two strong competitors.
The unfortunate incident instantly ruined the race for both Pedro Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio, who were left helpless in the gravel trap through no fault of their own. FIM MotoGP Stewards, led by Simon Crafar, immediately launched an investigation into the chaotic opening sequence once the Sprint concluded.
Following a thorough review under Article 1.21.2 of the World Championship regulations regarding dangerous riding on opening laps, the panel handed down a double long lap penalty to be served during Sunday's Grand Prix race.

Facing the media after the race, the Gresini rider cut a somber figure, taking full accountability for his error and offering sincere apologies to the riders he took down while preparing to tackle tomorrow's damage-limitation exercise.
