McLaren Duo React to Dramatic Last-Lap Clash at Singapore

Tensions flared within the McLaren camp after an intra-team collision on the final lap of the F1 Sprint Race at the Singapore Grand Prix. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri made contact while battling for position at Turn 5, instantly ruining what should have been a strong points-scoring finish for the Woking-based outfit.

The dramatic incident unfolded as Norris lunged down the inside of his teammate. Piastri, unaware of his presence on the inside line, turned in, resulting in a heavy impact that sent both cars spinning around on the Marina Bay asphalt. The desperate last-lap lunge dropped Norris down to eighth place at the checkered flag.

Meanwhile, Piastri suffered an even worse fate, forced to retire his damaged machine just corners shy of completing the race distance. Amidst the chaos, Max Verstappen claimed the Sprint victory during a race that also featured a separate crash involving George Russell.

Despite the obvious fury radiating from the pit wall, both drivers maintained remarkably calm demeanors when speaking to the press after stepping out of their cars. Norris offered contrition to the team for the disastrous outcome.

"I apologise to them [the team] that one of the cars is out," Norris stated. When pressed further for his direct opinion on the clash, the Briton remained diplomatic: "I’d rather just go back and review."

Similarly, Piastri claimed he was largely unbothered by the incident itself, keeping his immediate focus locked onto the upcoming qualifying session. "I’ve not seen it properly, I mean, from where I sit, it’s for 4th and 5th for a Sprint race, so I’m not that bothered," Piastri told Sky Sports.

"It’s just a lot of work now for the team to get both cars fixed. It’s a shame for the team," he added. However, team figures Andrea Stella and Zak Brown reportedly stormed back into hospitality visibly furious, as the double-car incident dealt a major blow to their Constructors' Championship campaign.
