Martin: 'Last year's rhythm doesn't work, we start from zero'

Jorge Martin ended Friday with a time good enough to go straight into Q2, but not without drama. The Spanish rider admitted he had to think hard after the second practice didn't go to plan. “I felt good, this morning was great, but in the afternoon with the same bike I started to struggle. It seems the track conditions changed,” he said.

The change in asphalt conditions between FP1 and FP2 was a scourge for Martin. He had to discard last year's references because the rhythm he had was no longer relevant. “Last year's rhythm doesn't work, so it's always like starting from zero every Friday,” he added. Still, his main goal of reaching Q2 was achieved.

Track and Tyre Adaptation

Martin also highlighted the different characteristics of the medium and soft tyres. “We worked hard with the medium, then switched to the soft. The balance changed, I was fast but lacked a bit of top speed,” he explained. This forced the team to readjust the bike setup.

At Turn 3, Martin admitted he is not as strong as Marco Bezzecchi. “I'm not riding smoothly in Turn 3. Bezzecchi is more competitive there, but it's good to be close to him to learn,” he said. The fierce battle in that sector is a point of evaluation.

Competition and Qualifying Focus

Though not yet comfortable, Martin is optimistic he can improve in qualifying. “We need to understand some issues. Tomorrow we'll try to step forward,” he stated. He realizes the challenge from rivals like Bezzecchi will only get tougher.

With track conditions constantly changing, adaptability is key. Martin and his team will work hard in FP3 to find the ideal setup. Qualifying will be the real test.

“We need to improve the feeling in Turn 3 and find consistency. But I believe in the team,” he concluded. Martin's journey in this Grand Prix is still long, and he is ready to face the obstacles.
