Brundle Shuts Down Horner-Ferrari Talk: It Was Just Politeness

Martin Brundle has moved swiftly to quash paddock speculation linking Christian Horner with a management role at Ferrari. The former driver turned Sky Sports commentator revealed he contacted Horner directly to verify the rumours, and the response was clear: there is nothing concrete behind the chatter.

The story gained traction after Horner told The Times that Ferrari would be the only team he would join without an ownership stake. That comment was widely interpreted as a hint of interest. But according to Brundle, it was merely a mark of respect for the Scuderia's heritage, not a negotiation opener.

"He said, 'I was being polite and respectful about Ferrari in an interview and it took on a whole load...'" Brundle recounted on Sky Sports F1. He added that being Ferrari's driver or team principal is simultaneously the best and worst job in F1 because the hero-zero curve can be vertical. That kind of pressure, Brundle noted, makes every move at Maranello a talking point.

The speculation had raised an intriguing scenario: what if Horner actually joined and had to work alongside Lewis Hamilton, who has been a Ferrari driver since 2025? Given the heated Red Bull-Mercedes rivalry of 2021, that partnership would be anything but ordinary. "Could you imagine Lewis and Christian working together after 2021? That would be an interesting dynamic," Brundle quipped.

Still, Brundle warned Ferrari against constantly changing key personnel. He compared it to football, where frequent managerial changes often backfire. The role of team principal in modern F1, he added, has changed dramatically. "They just need to stay calm and support each other," he stressed.

Ferrari's drivers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, have publicly backed team principal Fred Vasseur, and the management has done the same. That show of support suggests the door for an outsider like Horner is currently shut.

Ferrari sits second in the constructors' championship with 378 points, trailing leaders Mercedes on 538. That gap demands full focus on technical development and race strategy, not on distracting rumours.

For F1 fans, this at least answers the curiosity that briefly flared. Horner remains committed to his role at Red Bull, while Ferrari continues to rebuild under Vasseur. Speculation may come and go, but on track, only results matter.
