WHEN Fabio Di Giannantonio swept past Marc Marquez with three laps to go at Silverstone, many assumed it was just another overtake. But the way Marquez let him through without resistance sparked paddock speculation. Was it simply a loss of grip, or a subtle message to Ducati?

At the British Grand Prix last weekend, Di Giannantonio glued himself to Marquez's tail. Entering Village corner, the Pertamina Enduro VR46 rider took the inside line and breezed past the defending champion. Marquez barely offered a fight, and Di Giannantonio pulled away to finish over three seconds ahead.

TNT Sports commentator Neil Hodgson thought he saw Marquez consider a counterattack, but he ultimately backed off. Marquez had to settle for seventh while Di Giannantonio took sixth. But the real intrigue came from Spanish journalist Diego Lacave, who suggested Marquez deliberately lost to send a signal to the factory.

Lacave believes Marquez was frustrated with how the factory Ducati team worked at Silverstone compared to satellite outfits like VR46 and Gresini. By letting Di Giannantonio—on similar machinery—look faster, Marquez seemed to indicate that the problem was not him, but the team's support.

Indeed, satellite Ducatis impressed all weekend. Di Giannantonio had already out-qualified Marquez, while Alex Marquez finished fourth. These stats add some fuel to the theory, though Marquez has yet to confirm anything.

Coincidence or calculated strategy? Either way, this result extends Marquez's underwhelming record at Silverstone, and attention now turns to how the team responds at the next round.
