Marquez: Pedrosa Deserved MotoGP Title, Says It's Unfair

Marc Marquez has never hesitated to call Dani Pedrosa one of the greatest talents he's ever seen in the MotoGP paddock. In a new documentary produced by DAZN, Marc Marquez expressed his deep admiration for his former Honda HRC teammate. The acknowledgment comes as Marquez himself battles physical limitations that have hampered his performance.

“Now that I lack strength in my arm, I appreciate Pedrosa even more,” Marquez said in the documentary. “Dani had to face significant physical limitations, and only with supreme technique could you compensate and remain competitive with these demanding and physical bikes.”

Marquez realizes the heavy burden Pedrosa carried for years. The Spanish rider, known for his small stature, often had to fight extra hard to control the powerful MotoGP machines. Yet, thanks to his finesse and precision, Pedrosa was able to compete at the highest level.

“The fact that he never won a title in MotoGP is a true injustice,” Marquez continued. “He was also very unlucky with injuries.” Pedrosa indeed had to sit out several times due to injuries that disrupted his consistency, especially in crucial seasons.

History notes that Pedrosa was runner-up in the premier class three times: 2007, 2010, and 2012. He was a title contender on several occasions but always failed to secure the crown. Ultimately, in 2013, Marquez, then a rookie, stole the spotlight by clinching the world championship, burying Pedrosa's hopes of a fourth title after his 125cc and two 250cc crowns.

The partnership between Marquez and Pedrosa at Honda from 2013 to 2018 produced many memorable moments, including the dominance of the Repsol Honda team. Though they often battled fiercely on track, their relationship remained harmonious. Now, Pedrosa enjoys his new role as a commentator for DAZN, while Marquez continues to fight in MotoGP with the same spirit Pedrosa once had.

Pedrosa's story is a reminder that world titles are not the only measure of a rider's greatness. Dedication, perseverance, and the ability to overcome limitations often inspire more. Marquez admits he learned a lot from Pedrosa, especially about the true meaning of struggle behind the visor.
