MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia Racing have created a new internal dynamic early in the 2026 MotoGP season, with Jorge Martin emerging as a second title contender within the same factory team.

Aprilia entered the 2026 campaign with strong momentum after closing the previous season with three wins in the final four races, including contributions from Raul Fernandez. Expectations rose significantly as the Noale-based manufacturer positioned itself to challenge Ducati and reigning champion Marc Marquez.

Through the opening two rounds, Aprilia has not only met those expectations but established itself as a benchmark on the grid. Bezzecchi has secured two dominant grand prix victories and leads the championship with 56 points, while Martin delivered two podium finishes in Brazil, reinforcing his status as a genuine title contender.

This situation creates a complex intra-team scenario, with both factory riders holding realistic ambitions to compete for the world championship. Managing this balance presents a strategic challenge for the team as it seeks to maximise performance without compromising its title campaign.

“Massimo Rivola already addressed this and said he would be happy to manage such a difficult situation.”

This view was reinforced by Paolo Bonora, Aprilia’s team manager, who emphasised a positive approach to the internal competition. He highlighted that having two riders operating at a high level is ultimately a competitive advantage, provided it is managed effectively.

“It is a difficult situation, but we trust the intelligence of both riders to help the team navigate the season successfully.”

Bonora also pointed to Martin’s performance in Brazil as evidence that Aprilia’s success is not solely dependent on Bezzecchi. The presence of two consistently competitive riders provides strategic flexibility and strengthens the team’s position in both the riders’ and constructors’ championships.

From a technical perspective, the RS-GP has demonstrated a well-balanced package across key performance areas, including traction, stability, and power delivery. This balance has been central to Aprilia’s dominance in the opening rounds of the season.

However, the primary challenge moving forward lies in managing potential conflicts of interest between two riders with equal ambitions for the title. Historical precedents in MotoGP suggest that intra-team battles can significantly influence championship outcomes if not carefully controlled.

With strong momentum and an increasingly competitive structure, Aprilia now enters a critical phase of the 2026 season. The upcoming round at the Circuit of the Americas will serve as an important indicator of whether the team can sustain its performance while effectively managing internal competition in the title fight.
