Moto2, Sportrik Media - Manuel Gonzalez dominated FP2 at the Moto2 Thai Grand Prix 2026 in Buriram, breaking his own all-time lap record twice before sealing the session with a 1:34.501 benchmark.

The session evolved dramatically as rain began to fall in the latter stages, reducing grip and compressing the window for decisive time attacks. Adrian Huertas crashed at Turn 1 as conditions deteriorated, highlighting the increasing risk as riders pushed to secure competitive laps before the track worsened. Early pace proved crucial, with minimal margins separating the top positions.

Gonzalez finished 0.124s clear of Alex Escrig on the Forward machine, while Izan Guevara placed third for Boscoscuro. The Kalex chassis once again demonstrated numerical dominance inside the top ten, reinforcing its competitive baseline at Buriram. Rookie Angel Piqueras delivered a standout late improvement, climbing from P16 to inside the top five in a single sequence.

Daniel Holgado and Mario Aji secured fourth and fifth respectively for Kalex, underlining the constructor’s consistency across varying track conditions. Established contenders such as Celestino Vietti and Aron Canet remained within striking distance but continued refining balance ahead of qualifying.

With further rain possible across the weekend, FP2 provides a critical performance reference heading into grid-deciding sessions, where timing, tyre temperature control and track evolution will be decisive factors in shaping the Moto2 order for round one of the 2026 season.
