Liam Lawson delivered another masterclass in racecraft at the Marina Bay Circuit during the 2026 Formula 1 season. Starting from eighth on the grid directly behind his championship rival, the New Zealander capitalized on his soft tyre advantage over medium-shod opponents to dive into seventh on the opening lap, a position he successfully defended all the way to the chequered flag.
This performance marked the second consecutive weekend the young charger produced an explosive getaway, mirroring his charge from 11th to fourth at the start of the Bahrain GP in Malaysia before sealing seventh place. The Singapore result added another six points to his tally, representing his 13th points-scoring grand prix finish of 2026, which was further bolstered by a strong fifth-place finish in Saturday’s sprint race.
Acutely aware that overtaking is notoriously difficult at the tight street circuit, Lawson admitted his entire pre-race focus was locked on the opening complex. "We started on the softs. Once we pulled the blankets off, and I saw he was on a medium, I knew it was game on in Turn 1," Lawson told Sky Sports F1, highlighting that track position dictates the entire afternoon in Southeast Asia.

Although initial stint management brought slight concerns regarding how the soft compound would degrade before switching to mediums, the overall car pace remained exceptionally strong. The strategic masterstroke elevated Racing Bulls in the standings, with Lawson now sitting 34 points clear of his closest pursuer in the drivers' championship while inching closer to Isack Hadjar in eighth place.
The successful triple-header campaign also solidified the team's grip on fifth in the constructors' standings, stretching their gap over competitors to 32 points with only six rounds remaining. While the weekend ended on a high note for the Kiwi driver, teammate struggles down the order emphasized the unpredictable nature of modern grand prix racing.
