A crucial late setup adjustment ahead of qualifying proved to be the masterstroke that allowed Lewis Hamilton to unlock the optimal balance of his Scuderia Ferrari charger at the Sepang International Circuit. The seven-time world champion clinched a brilliant front-row grid slot right alongside his old rival, maximizing the SF-26's potential under the punishing Malaysian heat.
Throughout the weekend, the Maranello-based outfit's garage worked tirelessly through a barrage of modifications to combat severe tyre overheating and slippery track conditions. The extreme ambient temperatures demanded relentless troubleshooting from the engineers and mechanics before everything finally clicked when it mattered most.
"We made so many changes through all these practice sessions, and because the cars are sliding, and these tyres are overheating, it was really, really hard to find a good balance," the 106-time grand prix winner explained after jumping out of the cockpit.

This impressive feat marks the first time he will line up on the front row alongside Max Verstappen since the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. The final tweak made right before the session commenced successfully narrowed the performance gap, leaving the Briton just three-tenths adrift of pole position.
"We made one last change going into qualifying, and I think we hit the sweet spot," he added, expressing deep gratitude for the team's relentless efforts.
