Lewis Hamilton FP2 Cut Short After Power Unit Failure During Mexican Grand Prix Practice

Lewis Hamilton was forced to park his Ferrari prematurely during the second free practice session of the Mexican Grand Prix following an unexpected technical issue.

The Friday afternoon running for the seven-time world champion lasted only half an hour at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez before the power unit failure struck. The British driver had to pull off the circuit and abandon his car in the escape lane.

The setback occurred right at the conclusion of his initial time attack run utilizing the soft compound tires. Approaching turn 13, his power unit let go just as he looked poised to challenge the benchmark time set by Lando Norris, losing all drive before coming to a halt.

Addressing the situation over the team radio immediately after losing momentum, the driver reported that something was fundamentally wrong with the power delivery. He confirmed to the pit wall that the entire output vanished starting from turn 13.

Despite the setback on one side of the garage, data gathered by the Scuderia from the other car remained highly promising throughout the opening day of running. The sister car had shown competitive pace during the earlier practice sessions to keep the team encouraged.
