Iker Lecuona continued his dominant form at WorldSBK Cremona 2026. After taking Superpole and winning Race 1, the Spanish rider carried his momentum into the Superpole Race on Sunday morning, securing victory ahead of Nicolo Bulega and Alberto Surra, who claimed his first Superbike podium.
Starting from pole, Lecuona immediately took control of the race. Bulega and Surra followed closely. The intense battle between Lecuona and Bulega unfolded on lap two, with Bulega launching an attack. However, Lecuona executed a perfect counter-overtake at the final corner to regain the lead and hold it to the finish. This win further cements Lecuona's strong performance at the Cremona circuit.
For Bulega, this result delays his championship celebration. The Italian could have clinched the title in this sprint race but had to settle for second. Now, the championship will be decided in Race 2 later this afternoon. Bulega only needs to avoid losing more than 14 points to Lecuona. If Lecuona wins Race 2, Bulega needs to finish at least fifth to secure his first world title.
A sweet story comes from Alberto Surra. The Italian rider finished third, securing his first WorldSBK podium. Throughout the race, Surra had to fend off pressure from Yari Montella, who was pushing to take his position. However, Surra remained calm and maintained his pace to the finish line. This podium is a significant milestone in his career.
The race also saw incidents. Lorenzo Baldassarri and Garrett Gerloff collided at Turn 7 early on, forcing both to retire. Other riders like Alvaro Bautista, Stefano Manzi, and Twan Smits also failed to finish. Nevertheless, the Superpole Race delivered thrilling action with close battles at the front.
With this result, Lecuona edges closer to securing the runner-up spot, while Bulega still leads the standings. The title fight remains open, and Race 2 will be the decider.
