Leclerc Backs Vasseur: 'We Trust Him, Rumours Are Disrespectful'
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Fred Vasseur’s future has been subject of intense speculation

Charles Leclerc has publicly backed Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur amid swirling rumours about his future, ahead of this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang. The Monegasque driver emphasised the team’s full support and condemned the spread of what he called “silly rumours” that have disrupted the team’s serenity.

Ferrari started 2026 strongly, with the SF-26 challenging Mercedes for podiums and even taking two wins—one each for Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton. But as the development race intensified, the Maranello squad fell behind Red Bull and McLaren, heaping pressure on Vasseur.

“I’ve always said how much I trust Fred and how important he is for the team,” Leclerc told media including Motorsport Week. “We have a very special relationship. He’s been extremely valuable so far and he will be extremely valuable in the years to come.”

Leclerc highlighted Vasseur’s man-management as a key strength. “He knows what words to use and what conditions someone needs to extract the maximum out of an individual,” he explained. This endorsement reinforces that internal support remains unwavering despite external speculation.

The rumours had grown so loud that Ferrari issued an official statement denying them. Leclerc admitted the gossip has affected the team’s peace. “I just wish that sometimes there were less of these silly rumours,” he said. “I took off everything that is social media, so I don’t see much. But many people from the team know what’s going on, and that is not good for the serenity of the team.”

Despite the distractions, Leclerc insisted the team remains united and focused. “We’re all trying to do our best. Fred, the first, and all of us inside the team, we are pushing ourselves to the limit,” he said. “It’s part of our job to take criticism, but when you spread these kinds of things over and over, I think at one point it’s just not so respectful.”

As the paddock turns its attention to Sepang, Leclerc and Ferrari are determined to prove their resilience. The support for Vasseur is not just lip service—it reflects a belief that under his leadership, the team can return to winning ways. Now, the track will provide the ultimate answer.
