The Bahrain Grand Prix qualifying at the Sepang International Circuit delivered a major twist as the dominance of Mercedes-powered cars at the front was finally broken. Lando Norris and his McLaren teammate had to settle for sixth and seventh on the grid after struggling with the unique track surface.

Refusing to hide behind excuses, the 2025 F1 world champion gave a blunt assessment of his team's Saturday performance. He made it clear that the disappointing result boiled down to a simple lack of pure pace rather than any external mysteries.

"No, we're just slow," Norris admitted straightforwardly after the session. He pointed out that the tarmac behavior at Sepang differs significantly from recent venues, catching several Mercedes-powered contenders off guard.

While satisfied with the quality of his final flying lap, Norris conceded that the car's overall performance leaves him trailing far behind the front-runners. Persistent top-speed deficits on the straights continue to complicate his weekend ambitions.

Even so, the British driver remains optimistic about race day. With a long Grand Prix ahead and various strategic pit-stop scenarios on the table, climbing back up through the order remains a realistic target.
