Lance Stroll has been handed a grid penalty ahead of the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone after component changes pushed him beyond the permitted allocation.

The Canadian took on his fifth energy store and fifth control electronics unit of the season. As both components exceeded the allowed allocation, an automatic 10-place grid penalty was applied to his race starting position.

The practical effect is limited because Stroll had qualified only 21st. The penalty drops him to 22nd on the grid, handing 21st place back to Fernando Alonso after Stroll had outqualified his team-mate in Saturday's session.

The decision is another setback for Aston Martin, which has endured a difficult start to the 2026 season. The team sits last in the constructors' championship with a single point after eight races, while Honda power unit reliability and the AMR26's lack of pace remain major concerns.

Stroll is not the only driver carrying a penalty into the Silverstone race. Pierre Gasly was also given a grid drop after being found guilty of an impeding offence during qualifying, further reshaping the starting order before the main race.

Starting from the back leaves Stroll dependent on strategy, reliability and possible disruption ahead. For Aston Martin, the penalty extends a difficult weekend and again underlines the need for a deeper technical response to its troubled 2026 package.
