The historic Holden Commodore VF Holden V8 Supercar that famously featured NASCAR star Kyle Busch behind the wheel during its American stint is officially heading back to Australia. The iconic chassis, designated as WR 019, has been sold to a Melbourne-based collector after completing an extensive cross-continental testing program in the United States over the past few seasons.

According to Speedcafe, long-time owner Terry Wyhoon confirmed he will travel to the US in mid-December to oversee the logistical arrangements for the car's return. The vehicle, originally built by Walkinshaw Racing, was dispatched across the Pacific in late 2022 to participate in a specialized testing and development program run in conjunction with Richard Childress Racing.

This trans-Pacific connection materialized through engineer Andrew Dickeson, who previously worked for Wyhoon’s Image Racing operation before relocating to the United States to take up a technical role with RCR. Throughout its time stateside, the V8 Supercar touched asphalt at several notable venues including South Carolina Motorsports Park, Virginia International Raceway, Watkins Glen, and the Circuit of the Americas during the 2023 season.

Beyond the involvement of Kyle Busch, the high-profile testing initiative also welcomed prominent Australian talent, with then-Erebus Motorsport stars Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown participating alongside engineers to aid NASCAR teams adapting to road course racing. The car later transitioned to Kaulig Racing following Dickeson's career move, serving testing duties with drivers such as AJ Allmendinger, Daniel Dye, and Austin Dillon.

Having originally debuted in the Supercars Championship back in 2013 with Garth Tander under the Holden Racing Team banner, and later raced by Tim Slade, the machine now prepares to leave its American chapter behind. With the temporary import permits requiring its repatriation, Terry Wyhoon is ready to bring home a truly unforgettable piece of Australian motorsport heritage.
