The racing weekend at Motegi left a heavy toll on Fabio Di Giannantonio. The Italian rider admitted that his physical condition was severely hampered following a crash involving Alex Marquez during the Sprint race at the Japanese MotoGP.

The incident occurred on the opening lap at turn three when Alex Marquez collected Fabio Di Giannantonio. Following the collision, Alex Marquez received a double long lap penalty from the stewards.

Although he had expected to feel better on Sunday after getting a night's sleep, reality proved different. Fabio Di Giannantonio admitted that the pain reduced much less than he had hoped ahead of the main Grand Prix race in Japan.

"Well, for sure I'm not in great conditions," said Fabio Di Giannantonio after the Japanese MotoGP. "I expected to be much better after the night, but for sure it was not."

He added that he was struggling to feel free on the bike since the morning sessions, particularly on the right side of his body where he absorbed the impact from the crash.

"Ribs still are not 100 per cent and I just struggled from this morning to be really natural on the bike. I was struggling a lot to do the normal things, so it has been a complicated day," the VR46 Racing Team rider explained.

The physical issues were not limited to his chest area, as the right side of his body generally held him back from performing at his usual standard.

"The hip doesn't allow me to do a natural position and also the ribs," the Italian rider stated. "At the end, when you bang the ribs, you always have a sort of knife pointed in all the day."

Now, the Italian is facing a race against time to be ready for the upcoming Indonesian round. The immediate priority is physical recovery ahead of the home Grand Prix for the VR46 Racing Team's title sponsor, Pertamina, at the Mandalika circuit.

"Try to recover as much as I can," said Fabio Di Giannantonio regarding his strategy for the days leading up to Friday practice in Mandalika. "For sure we always have a tight schedule with the flights and events and stuff, but we will try to do the maximum to arrive as close as possible to 100 per cent for Mandalika."
