The Bahrain Grand Prix weekend at Sepang delivered a thrilling twist as Kimi Antonelli stormed to the top of the timesheets in the final practice session. After struggling to find consistent pace during Friday's running, the championship leader bounced back in style to put the Silver Arrows back where they belong.
Mercedes introduced a heavily revised W17 package to the Malaysian circuit, but initial running yielded modest results as rivals showed ominous speed. Proving their championship pedigree, the team engineered a perfect turnaround ahead of qualifying, with Antonelli clocking a blistering 1m36.302s lap.

As Formula 1 returned to Sepang for the first time since 2017, tyre degradation on the abrasive, hot surface remained a major talking point. Charles Leclerc was among the early pioneers trying out the hard compound before a brief red flag period halted proceedings due to debris from Oliver Bearman's Haas.
When the green flag dropped for the frantic qualifying simulations, the times tumbled rapidly. Despite strong challenges from the Red Bull garage, Antonelli unleashed a stunning final push to finish clear of Max Verstappen, reasserting his authority at the front of the pack.
