According to Crash.net, promising racing driver Kimi Antonelli secured a brilliant second-place finish in his very first Formula 1 race at the Bahrain Grand Prix held at the Sepang International Circuit. This remarkable result placed the young Italian on the podium alongside world champions Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, both of whom have previously tasted victory at the Malaysian venue.
Despite narrowly missing out on a maiden victory to Verstappen—who claimed his first win of the 2026 season—the rising star admitted to learning a tremendous amount while battling wheel-to-wheel with the sport's heavyweights. Racing closely against elite competitors provided invaluable technical insights into car placement, tire management, and psychological resilience under intense pressure.
The standout takeaway for the Italian driver from the Sepang weekend centered on racecraft during high-stakes moments. Kimi Antonelli highlighted how the Red Bull driver masterfully navigated a tricky safety car restart on slick tires over a slippery track surface, demonstrating superior mastery of grip levels when it mattered most.

Speaking during the post-race press conference, Kimi Antonelli expressed his admiration for sharing the asphalt with drivers who are actively shaping the history of motorsport. Although conceding that getting overtaken was deeply frustrating in the heat of competition, he acknowledged it as an essential building block for his ongoing development in the premier class.
"It's always great to share the track with Max and Lewis because they are rewriting history. Lewis basically made the history of the sport, and Max is doing the same," Kimi Antonelli stated during the post-race media session. "Today was a really good showcase of how Max handled the restart on slick tyres and the slippery track. He just knew much better how to position the car and had a better feeling for the grip in those first two corners and overtook me."
Despite the bittersweet feeling of losing the lead, the championship leader remains at the summit of the 2026 standings despite teammate George Russell suffering a heartbreaking retirement due to a power unit failure, turning the entire weekend into a masterclass of learning for the rookie.
