Kimi Antonelli will miss media day ahead of the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as he recovers from a viral illness. Mercedes confirmed that the young Italian has been excused from his media duties by the FIA as a precautionary measure to allow him proper rest.
The 20-year-old is expected to return to the paddock in time to participate in Friday practice. Mercedes stated that Kimi is feeling under the weather and given time to recover before the crucial weekend begins.
This weekend presents a historic opportunity for Antonelli, who can clinch his first Formula 1 world championship. He holds a commanding 123-point lead in the standings following a dominant victory at the previous United States Grand Prix.

The championship leader needs to score just two more points or finish inside the top nine on Sunday to seal the 2026 drivers' crown, breaking Sebastian Vettel's record as F1's youngest ever world champion.
Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas is also absent from Thursday's media duties in Mexico City due to illness. The Cadillac team announced that the Finnish driver would sit out media commitments to support his recovery.
Cadillac noted this is strictly a precautionary measure that currently does not affect his participation for the rest of the race weekend, while his long-term future remains a subject of intense paddock speculation.
