Jorge Martin delivered a solid performance at Silverstone this weekend. Although he finished second in the British Grand Prix, the Aprilia rider feels closer than ever to his best form this season. The podium he secured means more than just points—it’s a signal that he’s ready to fight for the world championship again.
The race didn’t go smoothly, though. The rear ride-height device on Martin’s bike failed to disengage at the start, forcing him to change his strategy from the very first lap. “I should have been able to save a bit more at the beginning, but that problem came up. I couldn’t release it because I had to protect the first position,” he told DAZN after the race. The consequences lasted until the end: tire wear, physical energy, and fuel consumption were higher than planned.
Despite that, Martin views this weekend as a big step forward. He admitted to rediscovering the speed that had been missing in previous rounds. “I can brake late, I can do what I want on the bike. On tracks where it didn’t work, I struggled to get into the top five. Here, I proved that when everything works, I can fight for wins,” he explained with optimism.
The result also strengthened his position at the top of the standings. But Martin refuses to get carried away. “I’m the leader, but the season is still long. Honestly, being the leader right now doesn’t mean much. What matters is who wins at the end of the year. Everyone here wants to win, and I have to keep improving. Every lap I do in the fight, I feel a bit closer to where I want to be,” he concluded.
This consistency is what makes this year’s title fight even more exciting. With Martin back to his best, the duel against his rivals is expected to be intense until the final round. Next week, Aragon will be the next test—and Martin has already set his target: to prove that this resurgence is no fluke.
