Carrera Cup racer Jack Jones suffered a heavy crash after his brakes failed completely at around 200km/h approaching Turn 6. The incident occurred just 25 minutes after track action resumed following the lunch break.

The Matt Stone Racing Camaro made hard contact with the tyre wall, and Jones, who was called up late to co-drive with Jack Le Brocq after Cameron Crick withdrew, described the experience as the most terrifying of his career.

“It was fucking terrifying, to be honest. I’ve never really had that happen before,” said Jones. “At least we had a safe race track this weekend and there was a gravel trap, there were tyre walls and I’m fine.”

The crash happened on his third or fourth lap after a pit stop that included a brake change. Jones explained that the brake pedal went to the floor with minimal deceleration, leaving him unable to avoid the wall.

“I was just circulating, waiting to come back in and do another [driver change] rotation and got to Turn 6 and just had full brake failure,” he said. “The pedal went to the floor, unfortunately, it didn’t slow down that much and then found the wall pretty hard to Turn 6. I reckon it’s probably ended our day, unfortunately.”

The incident is a major blow for the team, which had been optimistic about competing in the second half of the race. Matt Stone Racing now faces a significant repair job and a decision on whether to continue or withdraw.

Despite the severity of the impact, Jones emerged unscathed, highlighting the effectiveness of modern safety systems. The crash serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved and the importance of circuit safety features in protecting drivers.
