The season-ending round of the FIM Sportbike World Championship at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto turned into a complete nightmare for Jeffrey Buis. The Dutch rider representing the Track & Trades Wixx Racing Team crashed during the warm-up lap of the opening race, bringing an abrupt halt to his weekend before the competitive action even commenced. The unfortunate incident at the first corner immediately neutralized his participation and disrupted the grid.
The chaotic start saw Julian Correa and Fenton Seabright caught up in the heavy crash as the double World Supersport 300 champion lost control under braking. All three riders hit the tarmac simultaneously, rendering them completely unable to take the start line for Saturday afternoon's race. The dramatic turn of events prompted an immediate investigation by the FIM WorldSBK Stewards Panel to review the on-track sequence.
Medical checks at the circuit medical center quickly confirmed that Buis had aggravated a previous injury to his right shoulder, resulting in a painful dislocation. Following a thorough examination, the circuit medical staff declared him unfit for the remainder of the race weekend. This unfortunate verdict officially brought a premature end to not only his Spanish round campaign but also concluded his entire 2026 racing season.

Adding insult to injury, the FIM WorldSBK Stewards Panel later issued an official decision regarding the warm-up lap collision, finding the Dutchman responsible for breaching Article 1.21.2 of the sporting regulations. The stewards ruled that his entry into the first corner was irresponsible and endangered competitors. Because he was ruled unfit to finish the weekend, the mandated double Long Lap Penalty was carried over and must be served during his very next race appearance.
Following Loris Veneman's earlier season-ending misfortune, Buis becomes the second Dutch competitor forced into an early exit from the inaugural World Sportbike category. The heavy sanction now looms over his future entries, setting up a challenging path toward recovery and a potential return to full fitness.
