Jean Alesi Explains Why Lewis Hamilton Ignored Ferrari Pit Wall Orders

Former Formula 1 driver Jean Alesi has delivered a sharp perspective regarding the controversial incident involving Lewis Hamilton during last weekend's Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion chose to reject direct instructions from the Ferrari pit wall, a tactical decision that ultimately backfired and ruined a strong finishing position on the track.

The strategic blunder unfolded when Hamilton opted to bolt on a set of soft tires very early in the race to dispose of the medium compound, but stubbornly decided to stay out on track and risk going all the way to the checkered flag. What should have been a potential double-podium celebration for the Maranello squad dramatically dissolved into a disappointing sixth-place finish as the veteran driver could offer no resistance against rivals charging on fresher rubber.

Following the race, Hamilton shouldered full accountability for the tactical gamble, taking to social media to publicly apologize for his stubbornness. He stated, 'Mi prendo tutte le responsabilita per quella che si e rivelata una scelta sbagliata,' explicitly taking full responsibility for what turned out to be a flawed strategic choice made from the cockpit of the SF-26.

Weighing in on the situation through his regular column in Corriere della Sera, Jean Alesi admitted he was hardly surprised by the driver's defiant streak. According to the iconic former racer, internal tensions had been simmering for a while. 'Peccato che Hamilton non abbia ascoltato il muretto, doveva accadere una cosa del genere se penso che Lewis da tempo si lamenta, mette in dubbio il lavoro della squadra,' Alesi wrote, highlighting Hamilton's recent history of questioning team operations.

Despite the strategic mishap, Alesi reassured passionate Ferrari fans that there is no need to panic looking ahead to the 2027 campaign. He noted that the SF-26 proved highly competitive from Friday practice onwards in Singapore, offering concrete proof that the engineering department's development program is finally heading in the right direction.
