Mid-class drama erupted at Motegi as Izan Guevara secured a sensational lights-to-flag victory from pole position in the Japanese Moto2 race. Capitalizing on a dramatic pre-race setback for the championship leader, the Spanish rider executed a flawless performance to control the pace from the very first corner.
Disaster struck Manuel Gonzalez on the grid as he was forced to pull into the pit lane due to a stalled engine just before the start. This unexpected opening handed Guevara a clear run away from the pack, while Tony Arbolino and Filip Salac immediately slotted in right behind him to chase the early podium spots.
Arbolino launched brilliantly from fifth on the grid to snatch second place on the opening lap. Tension escalated significantly in the final quarter of the race when Arbolino attempted an ambitious lunge on the leader at Turn 11 on Lap 17, only to run wide and nearly surrender his position to a fast-charging Salac.
Despite mounting pressure during the closing laps, Guevara maintained his composure to claim a crucial victory that slashes the championship deficit down to just 10.5 points. It sets up an electrifying title fight as the season enters its final stretch.
Arbolino successfully defended second place to claim his first rostrum appearance since the 2025 US Grand Prix, with Salac rounding out the podium in third. Behind them, Ivan Ortola and David Alonso completed the top five, while a fighting Gonzalez ultimately crossed the line in 22nd place.
