Jorge Martin Solves Key Aprilia MotoGP Issue at Silverstone

Jorge Martin believes he has finally cracked a key issue that has been holding him back for several races, after making significant changes to his Aprilia Racing RS-GP ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The improvements were immediate, with Martin feeling a transformation in his front-end confidence from the very first laps.

Martin was one of four Aprilias inside the top five after Friday practice, underlining the bike's continued strength at the high-speed British circuit. However, he admitted that adapting was tricky given he missed the race here last season, but the changes made with his team have paid off handsomely.

“I can say the bike is working really well. We looked a lot into the data from the beginning of the season and went back to a base that we thought was best for Silverstone. The result was amazing,” said Martin. “I immediately felt strong and comfortable with the front. It’s also a mental switch—after Barcelona, I’m starting to trust it again.”

This turnaround is crucial, as Martin’s form had dipped sharply since a crash-filled weekend in Barcelona, where he lost confidence in the front tyre. Now, he feels he can brake deeper and corner more aggressively without losing the bike.

“I can brake really hard, enter corners with high speed, and the bike still turns,” he explained. “The balance here is really good. It’s a big step forward.”

However, the day wasn’t without drama. Martin narrowly avoided a collision with Augusto Fernandez in FP1 when he had to run wide onto the grass to avoid the Yamaha wildcard. Fernandez later apologised for the near-miss, saying he was on an out-lap and didn’t see Martin coming.

“I was right behind him, he was on a different line, but I got too close. I chose the grass to avoid him,” said Martin. Fernandez added, “I was on my out-lap, I didn’t see him coming that fast. I apologise if I disturbed him.”

With this newfound confidence, Martin is optimistic about fighting at the front this weekend, hoping to continue Aprilia’s dominance at Silverstone from last season.
