Hyundai IONIQ 3 Production Kicks Off in Turkey, Set to Conquer Europe

Hyundai has officially started production of the IONIQ 3 at its Izmit plant in Turkey, marking a new chapter for the Korean automaker in strengthening its electric vehicle lineup in the European market.

A i250 million investment has been poured into transforming the plant, which has been operating since 1997. More than half of the facility has been modernized to support the assembly of the latest generation of electrified vehicles, aligning with Hyundai's strategy of flexible powertrain offerings.

The arrival of the IONIQ 3 on the Izmit production line is more than just an additional model. It signals that Turkey is increasingly becoming a strategic manufacturing hub for Hyundai's European customers. With a total investment of i1.185 billion over nearly three decades, this plant is one of the company's key strategic assets.

In addition to the IONIQ 3, Hyundai is also preparing production of the next-generation BAYON and i20 at the same facility. This demonstrates a long-term commitment to developing the manufacturing ecosystem in the region.

Beyond vehicle assembly, Hyundai Mobis, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, will also build a battery assembly facility within the Izmit plant complex. This facility will support battery assembly for hybrid vehicles, further strengthening Hyundai's supply chain integration in Europe.

The IONIQ 3 will go on sale in several European markets starting in September, with two battery and motor options. This move is expected to accelerate EV adoption in the region and bring positive economic impact to the Izmit area.
