Christian Horner has surprisingly expressed openness to joining Ferrari, even without owning a stake in the Maranello team. In an interview with The Times, the former Red Bull team principal revealed that Ferrari is the only team that would make him return to the pit wall without demanding equity.
This statement comes amid speculation about Frederic Vasseur's future at Ferrari. The Italian team has not scored a podium in the last four grands prix, fueling uncertainty over the leadership. Horner, who left Red Bull 14 months ago, has been linked with Ferrari but always stumbled over the issue of share demands.
“I’ve always been an employee, I spent 21 years on the pit wall and I don’t need to go back there. At this point in my life, there’s only one team I would accept without owning a stake,” Horner said. “Ferrari is the most important brand in Formula 1. It’s the dream. And you could say it’s the sleeping giant of F1.”
Horner’s track record with Red Bull is impressive: 124 grand prix wins, six constructors’ titles (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2022, 2023), and eight drivers’ championships (2010-2013 with Sebastian Vettel, 2021-2024 with Max Verstappen). Those achievements make him one of the most successful managers in modern F1 history.
Horner also took a swipe at his old rival, Toto Wolff: “I feel I have another dance to dance. And Toto needs his hair ruffled.” The comment adds spice to the rivalry between the two figures who once dominated the hybrid era.
If Horner does join Ferrari, the balance of power in the paddock could shift dramatically. Ferrari is currently chasing Red Bull and Mercedes, and the presence of someone like Horner could be the catalyst they need. But will Ferrari respond to this signal? Time will tell.
