Holgado Sets New Moto2 Lap Record at Silverstone, Veijer Straight to Q2

Dani Holgado stamped his authority in Moto2 Practice at the British Grand Prix, Silverstone, on Friday afternoon. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider clocked a new lap record of 2:01.815, edging out Senna Agius and Manuel Gonzalez for the top spot.

Dutch rookie Collin Veijer delivered a solid performance, securing 14th place and an automatic berth in Q2. However, compatriot Zonta van den Goorbergh finished 19th and will have to fight through Q1 on Saturday to reach the pole shootout.

The 40-minute session was intense from the start. Holgado led early, but the pace ramped up in the second half. Ivan Ortola crashed at Turn 15 with 12 minutes remaining, leaving him to rely on his earlier lap of 2:02.697 to make the cut.

With minutes ticking away, Senna Agius briefly held the fastest time with a 2:01.910, breaking the previous record held by his teammate Manuel Gonzalez. But Holgado responded immediately, lowering the benchmark to 2:01.815 and sealing the fastest time of the day.

The closing stages were disrupted by a crash for Alonso Lopez at Turn 3, bringing out yellow flags and preventing several riders from improving their times. Van den Goorbergh was among the victims, stuck in 19th. Veijer, however, held on to 14th, securing his Q2 spot by the narrowest of margins.

Behind Holgado, Agius, Gonzalez, Alex Escrig, and Izan Guevara completed the top five, with Barry Baltus taking sixth. With qualifying looming, the Moto2 grid is set for a thrilling battle at Silverstone.
