The recent lengthy suspension of track action due to technical glitches in Malaysia has drawn severe criticism from one of the paddock's most outspoken figures. According to FormulaPassion, former Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko did not hold back his frustration regarding the incident, which he believes severely damaged the reputation of the premier single-seater racing championship.
Speaking to Austrian publication OE24, the veteran motorsport personality admitted that he was utterly bored by the prolonged delay while watching the broadcast from the comfort of his living room. He revealed that he has even removed the extra telemetry screens from his home setup, preferring to watch the races simply as a regular fan tuning into the television coverage.
"Ormai sono un normale appassionato di F1 che si siede sul divano davanti alla TV, ho anche fatto rimuovere gli schermi aggiuntivi in cui potevo consultare la telemetria – ha detto Marko – mi basta vedere quello che viene trasmesso in tv. Dover aspettare per oltre un’ora il via in Malesia e stato veramente noioso", explained Helmut Marko when describing his experience waiting for the cars to finally leave the pit lane.

The frustrating situation where machinery was held hostage by computer software errors for over an hour prompted harsh words from the Austrian veteran. He emphasized that stopping a high-profile global sports entertainment product over a software glitch is completely unacceptable and serves as a major embarrassment that forces the governing bodies to rethink their technical approaches.
"E davvero vergognoso che un prodotto di alto livello come la F1 venga bloccato cosi a lungo da un problema di software – ha aggiunto Marko – e una figuraccia che aiutera a ripensare molte cose. Da quanto ne so, il ritorno dei V8 turbo a partire dal 2030 e una decisione gia presa", concluded Marko, highlighting both the software fiasco and dropping a hint about future powertrain regulations.
