Isack Hadjar will make his return to Red Bull Racing for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, after missing three races with a wrist injury. The team confirmed the Frenchman's comeback, following his full recovery.
Hadjar had been sidelined since injuring his wrist during training in Formula 1's summer break, and Red Bull refused to rush the 21-year-old back before he felt fully comfortable. Team principal Laurent Mekies emphasised that priority was given to a complete recovery. "We always said we would prioritise him coming back at 100 percent," Mekies said. "And honestly there is nothing wrong with his recovery. The recovery is going as planned."
During Hadjar's absence, Liam Lawson filled the seat, impressing with points in two of his three appearances: seventh at Zandvoort and sixth in Madrid. Although a damaged front wing after contact with Nico Hulkenberg led to a 14th-place finish at Monza, his contribution was acknowledged by the team. "The team would like to sincerely thank Liam for his professionalism, dedication and hard work over the past three races," Red Bull said in a statement.
Hadjar's return means Lawson goes back to Racing Bulls to partner Arvid Lindblad in Baku. "LL30 is back," the team said. "Liam returns to VCARB this weekend in Baku, with Isack having made a full recovery from his wrist injury."
The reshuffle also brings Yuki Tsunoda's temporary stint at Racing Bulls to an end. The Japanese driver filled in for Lawson across the same three events, finishing 11th at Zandvoort, scoring a point with 10th at Monza, and finishing 14th in Madrid. Tsunoda now returns to his role as Red Bull's reserve driver.
Hadjar will line up alongside Max Verstappen as F1 embarks on a run of three consecutive race weekends in Azerbaijan, Malaysia and Singapore. The 21-year-old's return provides a morale boost for the team in the constructors' championship battle. With his impressive form before the injury, Hadjar is expected to be immediately competitive at the challenging Baku City Circuit.
For Lawson, the return to Racing Bulls is an opportunity to continue his positive momentum. He will aim to help the team secure a strong position in the constructors' standings, while proving that his strong performances with Red Bull were no fluke.
