Hadjar in Doubt for Dutch GP, Lawson on Standby

Isack Hadjar is reportedly set to miss Formula 1's Dutch Grand Prix this weekend due to injury, opening the door for a surprise return to Red Bull Racing for Liam Lawson.

According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Isack Hadjar has picked up a wrist injury during a gym session over the summer break. The injury has cast major doubt over his participation at Zandvoort, with the report suggesting that Hadjar being sidelined is the most likely outcome, though a final decision has not yet been made.

If Hadjar is unable to race, Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson would make an unexpected return to Red Bull Racing, where he lasted just two races before being demoted at the start of 2025. Ironically, Lawson's F1 career began with a Dutch GP injury call-up three years ago, when Daniel Ricciardo broke his hand in a practice crash.

The shuffle would also hand Yuki Tsunoda an F1 return, as he would take Lawson's place at Racing Bulls, a team he made 89 starts for before his own short-lived promotion to Red Bull Racing last year. Tsunoda is currently serving as the team's reserve driver, having been unable to secure a race seat since losing his Red Bull drive at the end of last year. He has also been linked this week to an IndyCar future, but a return to F1 would surely take priority.

Zandvoort was the scene of Hadjar's first F1 podium last year, and he had been putting together a solid 2026 season, with every indication being that he would be retained by Red Bull for 2027. If he misses Zandvoort, Hadjar would have two weeks to recover before the next race at Monza.
