Heading into the prestigious Bathurst 1000, Thomas Randle arrives with a crucial mission to secure his spot in the championship finals. However, that heavy pressure does not weigh down his young co-driver, Elias Goodall, who feels much more relaxed approaching the showdown weekend at Mount Panorama.
Currently, Thomas Randle sits 12th in the overall standings, sitting just 63 points away from the cut-off spot currently occupied by Jack Le Brocq in 10th position. Although the points battle is tight, Elias Goodall views the chaser status as a psychological advantage heading into the endurance classic.
"I was probably hoping we’d make a bigger inroad at Tailem Bend and then hopefully be the one sitting in that P10 spot for Bathurst," Elias Goodall told Speedcafe. "लेकिन to be the chaser is always a good thing, I think there’s less pressure going in."
Goodall’s performance alongside fellow co-driver Harri Jones previously grabbed attention when both stood out amidst treacherous weather conditions at The Bend 500. Considering their minimal experience in Gen3 machinery, with Goodall only having one wildcard round under his belt at Townsville prior, their pace was remarkable.
During the dramatic race at The Bend, Elias Goodall even managed a stunning start through soaking wet conditions surrounded by highly experienced names, successfully climbing to second place right after the opening sequence of corners before battling through weather changes and on-track incidents.
"The first 20 laps I was running second and I was a little bit chuffed with that," Elias Goodall recalled regarding his strong stint fighting near the front against seasoned veterans.
