A very difficult period continues to unfold for George Russell in the current Formula 1 campaign. Ever since securing victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the British driver has struggled to find his peak form, failing to finish inside the top five across multiple subsequent rounds.

His woes were further compounded earlier in the season when he suffered a late engine failure, followed by a ninth-place finish at the Singapore Grand Prix after being forced to serve a grid penalty.

High hopes accompanied the arrival at the Circuit of the Americas for the United States Grand Prix, but no signs of a genuine turnaround materialized, as he ultimately dragged his machinery across the finish line in eighth place after 56 demanding laps.

The bitter pill was harder to swallow as he watched the opposite side of the Mercedes garage celebrate in jubilation following a teammate triumph. Speaking candidly in the media pen after the checkered flag, he did not mince words regarding his performance.

"The pace was just rubbish today. That's the long and short of it, of course, the 5-second didn't help things and probably cost me two or three positions," Russell told Sky Sports when reviewing his struggles on track.

"Nevertheless, the pace was not good enough when it needed to be," he added, dismissing theories that the struggles were solely tied to interpreting newly introduced car updates.

When questioned directly on whether he was still trying to adapt to the latest aerodynamic packages brought by his squad, he insisted that the core issue was simply a lack of raw speed during crucial moments.

"Just not being quick enough, to be honest. I need to try to understand why it is, and it's strange when you're so far off," he concluded, leaving engineers searching for answers ahead of the next round.
