Following the announcement that all remaining rounds of Carrera Cup Australia will feature a full 28-car grid, Queensland Raceway (QR) is set to host a fierce battle this weekend. The decision stems from the series capping next season's field, incentivizing full-time teams to return with the new-for-2027 992.2 generation Cup Car.

One of the key storylines is the return of Tom McLennan with Earl Bamber Motorsport after nearly a year on the sidelines. Involved in a multi-car pile-up at the Gold Coast last year, McLennan and his father took it upon themselves to fully rebuild the damaged car instead of sending it back to the team. Their hard work has paid off, and McLennan is now ready to get back on track.

Not only that, but this event also marks the debut of Tim Farrell, stepping up from the Michelin Sprint Challenge. The former sprintcar racer will get his first taste of the 992.1-spec car before the machine moves down to the second tier next year. Meanwhile, Daniel Quimby returns for another cameo appearance after stunning on debut in Darwin with a top-10 finish.

Special milestones will be celebrated by three drivers: Matt Slavin and Liam Talbot each starting their 50th race, and Scott Taylor reaching his 100th start on Sunday. These achievements highlight their dedication to Australian motorsport.

In the standings, Harri Jones still leads, but just two points clear of Clay Osborne. Reigning champion Dylan O'Keeffe sits 65 points behind after a tough outing in Darwin. Last season, Jones dominated QR by sweeping all three races, even while having to head home for the birth of his son during the weekend.

The race format changes for QR: two 45-minute races replace the traditional three-sprint format, similar to what was introduced in Darwin. This will test strategy and consistency.

Round 3 of Porsche Equity-One Carrera Cup Australia takes place on August 21-23 as support for the Ipswich Super440.
