A major career move has been officially confirmed as Franco Morbidelli prepares to leave the MotoGP paddock and transition to the World Superbike championship (WorldSBK) with the factory Aruba.it Racing - Ducati squad for the 2027 season. The Italian rider will step directly into a premier factory seat, marking a fascinating new chapter in his extensive professional motorcycle racing career.

This high-profile switch effectively sees Morbidelli swap places with reigning WorldSBK champion Nicolo Bulega, who makes his much-anticipated jump to MotoGP to join the VR46 Ducati team. Bulega will partner with Fermin Aldeguer, who moves across from Gresini. Meanwhile, Morbidelli joins the growing list of riders including Jack Miller and Brad Binder in making the high-profile switch from Grand Prix racing to production-based superbike machinery next year.

Morbidelli’s path to this milestone has been uniquely challenging. Taken under the wing of Valentino Rossi early on, he became the very first official member of the VR46 Riders Academy. After skipping Moto3 and dominating the 2017 Moto2 world championship with eight victories, he graduated to MotoGP in 2018. Over the years, he experienced the highs of finishing as the 2020 world championship runner-up with Petronas Yamaha, alongside stints with Pramac and VR46.

Now 31 years old, the Italian veteran aims to channel his extensive premier-class experience into a successful campaign in WorldSBK. Reported by Crash.net, his deep technical knowledge of Michelin and prototype machinery will serve as a strong foundation as he gets accustomed to the production-based championship, where he looks to hit the ground running.

Reflecting on this major career pivot, Franco Morbidelli shared his excitement about joining the championship-winning setup. "I am very happy and excited about this new chapter in my career. I thank Ducati and Aruba for this opportunity," he stated. Looking forward to the challenge ahead, he added, "As always, I will do my best to live up to a team that has fought at the top for years and has just won the Superbike World Championship. I will do the best job possible to achieve great results together."
