Franco Colapinto Responds to Jeremy Clarkson's Controversial F1 Remarks

Alpine Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto has officially responded to the controversial comments made by television personality Jeremy Clarkson during the United States Grand Prix weekend in Austin. Clarkson, who attended the event as a team guest, made a widely discussed joke suggesting that the driver deserved a grid penalty purely for being Argentinian.

The provocative remarks quickly drew public attention, as they appeared to reference both an actual power unit penalty and the notorious 2014 Patagonia special from Clarkson's former motoring show, which had previously stirred diplomatic sensitivities regarding the Falklands War. The unexpected comments immediately prompted a swift protective response from the Enstone-based squad.

Shortly after the broadcasted interview, the team issued a clear statement distancing themselves from the remarks while firmly backing their young charger. The organization emphasized that while they hosted the television personality, the opinions expressed did not reflect the values or stance of the racing outfit, reiterating their absolute support for their driver.

Addressing media representatives twenty-four hours later, the driver played down the significance of the remarks while acknowledging that his manager had addressed the matter publicly. "Of course, it's nothing to do with the team. He did an interview on his own, it's nothing related to the team. I think he's always been kind of joking, I don't really know him, but they told me," he explained to reporters in the paddock.

The off-track noise compounded a difficult weekend that ultimately ended in premature retirement following a Turn 1 collision with Arvid Lindblad, leaving the Alpine machinery with severe floor and sideboard damage that ruined any strategic ambitions for the race.
