Ferrari has finally broken its silence. After days of speculation surrounding Fred Vasseur's future as Team Principal, the Scuderia released an official statement affirming that the Frenchman's position is safe. The statement came shortly after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where pressure on the team had intensified following a challenging summer stretch.
The issue had been simmering in the paddock for weeks. The chatter reached a boiling point when former Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner openly expressed interest in the role currently held by Vasseur. Horner's comments sparked a fresh wave of speculation, as if suggesting the hot seat at Maranello was up for grabs.
But Ferrari was not about to stay quiet. In its official statement, the Italian team made it clear that it had made its choice long ago and had no intention of changing it. "Ferrari's position is clear, has not changed, and Ferrari has made its choices already. We have confidence, full confidence, in Fred Vasseur and in his team, and we continue to do so," the team stated, as quoted by Motorsport Week.
The statement also highlighted the importance of unity amid the storm of rumors. Ferrari acknowledged that moments like these demand cohesion from every member of the team. "At this time and in this particular moment, it's really important that the team remains united and cohesive. We are focusing all our energy on the work ahead," the statement continued. They also stressed that outside speculation would not distract from the main mission: on-track performance.
Interestingly, Ferrari did not deny that they are always in the spotlight. They even noted that many professionals aspire to be part of a team as prestigious as Ferrari. "Ferrari has always attracted extraordinary interest, and it is only natural that many professionals aspire to be part of it. It is a reflection of the strength of what Ferrari really represents," they said. However, they also made it clear they would not fuel speculation or comment on assumptions from outside the company, including those related to The Times article about Horner.
Ferrari's decision to speak out on Tuesday, 29th September, seems far from coincidental. They want to ensure that the race weekend in Malaysia is not overshadowed by endless gossip and speculation. "We are doing this today because we would like to avoid that in the next weekend in Malaysia being occupied only with this kind of gossip and speculation. We would like to be focused on the race, on the performance, on the team, on Fred, and of course the leadership is taking to bring ahead the Scuderia Ferrari HP," the statement emphasized.
With this statement, Ferrari hopes to calm the speculation and bring the focus back to the track. But in the fast-paced world of Formula 1, pressure can resurface at any moment. For now, at least, Fred Vasseur retains the full trust of the team he leads. And for Ferrari fans, stability in the leadership is welcome news in the midst of a challenging season.
