MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Fermin Aldeguer is emerging as a key figure in a potential 2027 MotoGP rider market reshuffle, with links to Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Racing Team as structural changes begin to form across the Ducati network.
The situation is closely tied to developments at Gresini Racing, where reigning championship runner-up Alex Marquez has long been associated with a potential move to the factory KTM squad. Should that transition materialise, Aldeguer becomes a logical candidate for repositioning within the Ducati structure.
According to reports from AS.com, Ducati is expected to activate its contractual option on Aldeguer but place him at VR46, its factory-supported satellite team. This reflects Ducati’s broader rider development strategy, balancing talent progression with competitive stability across its satellite operations.

Aldeguer begins his 2026 MotoGP campaign in Goiania after missing pre-season testing and the Thai Grand Prix due to a femur fracture sustained during winter training. This delayed entry adds complexity to performance evaluation, given his limited adaptation time compared to other rookies on the grid.
If confirmed, the move would make Aldeguer the first non-Italian rider to compete for VR46. Such a change would require one of the current riders—Fabio di Giannantonio or Franco Morbidelli—to vacate a seat, highlighting the competitive pressure within Ducati’s satellite ecosystem.
VR46 had previously targeted Pedro Acosta, but the current championship leader is now more strongly linked with a move to Ducati’s factory team, potentially alongside Marc Marquez. This evolving scenario further reshapes the rider market dynamics heading toward 2027.
From a performance standpoint, Gresini has established a strong track record since switching from Aprilia to Ducati machinery in 2022, with every rider it has signed securing at least one MotoGP race victory. However, uncertainty extends beyond rider line-ups. Gresini has yet to formally renew its agreement with Ducati beyond the 2026 season, introducing additional strategic variables into the future composition of the grid.
On the technical side, the 2027 season will mark a significant regulatory reset with the introduction of 850cc engines, requiring all manufacturers and riders to adapt to entirely new machinery. In this context, placing emerging riders like Aldeguer within competitive satellite teams becomes critical for accelerating development data and feedback loops.
Notably, Aldeguer and Morbidelli are the only Ducati riders not competing on full factory-spec GP26 machinery in 2026, meaning their performance assessments must account for technical disparities relative to factory entries.
