Fabio Quartararo has indicated that official confirmation of his MotoGP future is not far away after it was confirmed he will no longer race for Yamaha in 2027.

Yamaha has confirmed Quartararo's departure through its official farewell message to the Frenchman, while also announcing Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura as its new factory line-up for 2027. That has shifted attention towards when Quartararo's expected future with Japanese rival Honda will be made official.

Quartararo did not give a precise date when asked at Sachsenring on Thursday. However, he made clear that the confirmation should not take too long, even with the delayed sequence of 2027 rider announcements still needing to be arranged.

“I don't really know when, exactly, but for sure it’s not going to be super long,” Quartararo said.

“I think [the official announcement] is more for the public or whatever, but I think I have nothing to hide. It's just that I cannot say...”

Away from his future, Quartararo is also approaching the German Grand Prix with cautious expectations. Sachsenring was the venue of Quartararo and Yamaha's most recent victory in 2022, but the Frenchman believes the layout is unlikely to suit Yamaha's new V4 package.

“It's going to be tough, because we miss a lot of turning and a lot of rear grip,” Quartararo said.

“So, basically, that’s what this track is.”

Quartararo, who returned to the top 10 last time out at Assen, doubts Yamaha can find a major step through set-up changes alone. He said the main limitation is the need for new items rather than further adjustments to the existing base.

“I think already from the beginning of the year, we have tried all the possibilities on our bike. What we need is new items that bring what we need,” Quartararo said.

“Because we changed completely the base, and we always come back to the same. So I think there is nothing really to find out by the setting, just try to make the electronics as best as possible.”

“But we know if we are this far, it's just a little that we can adjust.”

The German Grand Prix now becomes an important weekend for Quartararo to remain competitive in a difficult closing phase with Yamaha, while waiting for official confirmation of his direction for MotoGP 2027.
