Another enthralling F2 season will go to the wire in the Middle East, its CEO has insisted

Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel has firmly put an end to mounting paddock speculation by confirming that the final two rounds of the current season will proceed as scheduled in the Middle East. Despite earlier disruptions to the motorsport calendar caused by regional tensions in the Middle East earlier this year, series organizers remain completely confident in finishing the campaign on track rather than cutting the season short.

Earlier in the year, geopolitical conflicts forced logistical recalibrations that affected early-season rounds, requiring prompt schedule shifts such as relocating events to Montreal, Canada. As the championship draws closer to its dramatic conclusion, questions naturally arose regarding the viability of traveling to Qatar and Abu Dhabi for the double-header finale, leading some observers to wonder if alternative venues or retroactive standings would come into play.

However, speaking to media outlets including Motorsport Week, Bruno Michel dismissed any notion of cancellation or premature championship closure, emphasizing that F2 operates in lockstep with Formula 1. He underscored that comprehensive safety assessments and operational frameworks are fully in place to ensure a thrilling title fight featuring top contenders like Rafa Camara reaches its natural on-track climax.

"For the moment – and I think it’s completely clear – Qatar and Abu Dhabi are on the calendar, and we are going to finish the championship in Qatar and in Abu Dhabi," Bruno Michel stated firmly. He added that Formula 1 is completely aware of the situation and is actively executing all necessary protocols to guarantee that the final two events run under optimal racing conditions.

Addressing the alternative scenario of crowning a champion retroactively from Baku if the finale failed to happen, the French executive admitted it would be an undesirable outcome. He reiterated his commitment to deciding the championship purely through competitive racing action rather than administrative decisions behind closed doors.
