GRM protege Jayden Evennett has made waves in the European GT4 scene, claiming three podiums in two race weekends in September. Driving a Speedy Motorsport Toyota Supra GT4, the young Australian has quickly established himself as a rising star.
Valencia Victory
Jayden Evennett and Lithuanian co-driver Andrius Zemaitis competed in the Pro-Bronze class at the third round of the Iberian Supercars Endurance at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia. Despite never having raced at the Spanish venue, Evennett was immediately fast, mixing it with the top Pro drivers.
In Race 1, the pair finished 11th overall and third in class after Evennett charged from the back of the top 20. The following day, Evennett started Race 2 from ninth and handed over to Zemaitis in second overall. They eventually dropped to 13th but secured a crucial class win.
Zandvoort Rookie Award
A week earlier, Evennett raced in the GT4 European Series at Zandvoort, Netherlands, alongside Dutchman Mees Houben. In the Silver class, Houben started Race 1 from fifth and handed the Supra to Evennett in third. Evennett then raced to second, adding another podium to his tally.
Qualifying for Race 2 was trickier, with Evennett starting from 10th. However, the duo charged through to finish in the top five and scored the second-most points of the weekend, earning Evennett the Rookie of the Race award.
“It’s been a surprising year for us. Coming over here with really no experience on the tracks and doing very well has been a pretty cool experience,” Evennett told GT4 Australia. “I’ve learnt a lot at the tracks over here. They’re very difficult and it’s a very different style of driving compared to what we have in Australia, so it’s been a really good year.”
Evennett also credited his participation in Monochrome GT4 Australia for building his experience and technique, which helped him adapt quickly to European circuits. “Even when I’m not racing, I still get to drive the car. Even if it’s on the other side of the world, I’m still able to do it,” he added.
Busy Schedule Ahead
Evennett’s absence from GT4 Australia at Sydney Motorsport Park was filled by driver coach and former Bathurst 1000 wildcard Jesse Dixon, who impressed with a fourth-place class finish in Race 2.
After a short break, Evennett faces a packed end to the year. He is set to compete in Round 10 of the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) on October 10, followed by the GT4 European Series finale at Portimao, Portugal, a week later. Two weeks after that, he returns to the Shannons SpeedSeries for the final round, featuring both GT4 Australia and the Trans Am Cup Series.
With strong performances in Europe and Australia, Evennett has proven he is a young talent to watch in global GT racing.
